Experience Process Improvement in Japan
Join leaders from around the globe in Japan
Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the evolution of the Toyota management system through tours of the Toyota Museum and the Toyota Factory. They will receive training in the Toyota Production System (TPS) tools and methods, and have factory genba experiences where they will be able to apply the tools of TPS to make improvements. Great inspiration comes from the in-depth discussions with participants from Virginia Mason and other organizations about the challenges and opportunities of applying the concepts they are learning to the health care setting. The tour is also a unique opportunity to study with Sensei Chihiro Nakao, one of the last surviving students of Taiichi Ohno, the father of the Toyota Production System.
The role of the participant on this journey is to learn, apply the learning, and then reflect on how what was learned can be applied in their own organization. The principles of ‘go see, ask why, show respect’ are brought to life in profound ways allowing participants to reflect on their own leadership of a lean management system in their health care organization.
After this experience, you will be able to:
- Reflect on your own leadership direction of a lean management system in your organization.
- Articulate the importance of the deeply ingrained Respect for People culture at Toyota that enables the success of the improvement tools
- Translate the learning garnered outside of healthcare settings into your own organization
